The Weekly Tri

THE WEEKLY TRI!!!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Got a lot to talk about this week, so I’m gonna get out of the way here.  There is actually a lot of important stuff in this email (BWW fundraiser, DM, open exec meeting, plenty of others), so please bear with me.

THE WEEK THAT WAS:

-Nathan fought someone.  With his fists.  And his abdominals.  AND WON!!!!!  In his own (very modest) words: “To be totally candid about it I didn’t fight very well.  The other kid was very new and a brawler and I let him determine the character of the fight– you’ll see in the video [which will be on youtube for those who couldn’t go this past weekend], most of my technique went out the window after he charged me and he just kept charging.  I think I won on conditioning.”  I have to just underline that the man WON.  HE KICKED THAT OTHER KID’S TOOSH.  I like Nathan Garrett.  A lot.  In a manly way.

-For those that don’t know, Bradley Randall Scott Sherman (or is it Scott Randall?….either way) is on the NU cycling team.  You wouldn’t know it looking at him, but he also rides a bike.  And this past weekend, he did so competitively.  Allow me to quote from a few of his texts from the weekend.  It started off well for Young Sherman: “Just killed it on the ttt [team time trial] i ended up pulling the team for about half the race.”  But it started to go downhill from there: “23rd out of 88 officially.the bitch is you work so much harder when you are alone but it is so hard to claw back onto a wheel that is ahead of you.”  And finally: “It was stupid…they did a horrible job”.  So from good, to bad, to worse, Young Sherman rode and rode.  And you thought you had a bad weekend.

THE WEEK TO BE:

-NU Dance Marathon is this weekend.  Several folks are dancing for a whollopping 30 hours without rest or respite.  But not Mitch, even though he takes salsa lessons.  This means 2 things for all of you:

1 – if you’re running anyways…why not run while supporting a good cause?!  Dance Marathon’s annual 5k/10k race is this Saturday, March 5!  Run or walk one of two distances!  10k starts at 7:30; 5k starts at 8:30; check-in starts a half-hour before each in Norris!  check out ALL THE DETAILS athttp://nudm.org/2011/02/10/2011-nudm-5k10k/ Paying online saves you $10! All proceeds to DM’s beneficiaries!  There will be prizes and food too!  We’d love to see you there!  This is a great idea for those of us that have to run on Sat. anyway.

2 – Visiting hours are: Friday from 8pm to midnight; Saturday from 9am to 9pm; $5 donation per visitor

-Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser next Tuesday 3/8/11.  WE WILL BE EATING BWW AND THE MONEY WILL GO TO THE CLUB.  Bring EVERYONE!!!!!  Valerie has flyers and either her or someone on exec will be contacting you with those this weekend.  Basically, all you do is go to BWW with a flyer and they pay us.  THIS IS A POTENTIALLY HUGE MONEY MAKER.  Do. It.  Drag your awkward roommates, suitemates, hall mates there.  force feed them.  Send it out over listservs, get people there.  Peer pressure is in action right now.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-VERY IMPORTANT: Exec is meeting tomorrow at noon on the south side of the ground floor of Norris (usually over by the bookstore-ish).  THIS IS AN OPEN EXEC MEETING.  If you are interested in what we do, how we do it, how this club is run….come!  If you’re an underclassman and have no idea what the hell we do…..come!  If you’re an upperclassman and you just want to make fun of me….come!  This is also a great chance to bring something to our attention or speak your mind candidly if you so feel.  Give feedback, see what we do, eat some crepes.  If you don’t see any of us down there right at noon, just wait a little, we’ll show up.

-Kelli Marks is doing one of the coolest things since Nathan rode his bike from IL to CA (yes, that actually happened).  She is also riding her bike across the whole country, building affordable housing while she goes.  This is all happening this summer, but she’s starting to fundraise for it now.  This is incredibly cool and I encourage all of you to ask her about it or just google ‘bike and build’ to see what she’s doing.  You will be impressed.  Her personal fundraising page is:http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/4596.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to email or ask her about it.  She’s extremely passionate about this and very excited already.  GO KELLI!!!!!

-In addition to the DM 5k/10k on saturday, Sven has brought to our attention that there is an indoor tri in Skokie at Lifetime Fitness (my parents are members there, it’s sweet!) on Sunday.  It’s only about a 15-20 mintue drive west of here.  See his earlier email about it if you’re interested in going.

SHOUT OUT OF THE WEEK:

KENDYL MINOR.  SHE GOT A JOB STUDENT TEACHING AT MATHER HIGH SCHOOL!!

tryin’ to understand: how we’re gonna get there if we’re both tryin’ to drive,
